As Florida’s largest city, Jacksonville has lots more going on than just sun and sand, and as a result is one of the least touristy places to visit in the state. That’s not to say there isn’t plenty for a traveler to do in Jacksonville. There are definitely great bargains to make your trip an affordable one.

A Foodie Destination
Jacksonville has a lot to see and do including the Jacksonville Zoo, the Museum of Contemporary Arts, and of course, the area’s vast public beaches. The city also has a lively food scene, with a focus on all the fresh and abundant seafood available year-round. Casual seafood shacks, or as they’re called in Jacksonville, “fish camps,” serve up food right on the docks. Try Whitey’s Fish Camp, Singleton’s Seafood Shack, and especially Clark’s Fish Camp – as famed for its collection of taxidermy as it is for the food.
There’s also a large assortment of food trucks, providing cheap and tasty street food to places along the beach, downtown Jacksonville, and other locations. The food truck offerings range from the traditional ice cream trucks, to Caribbean, barbecue, Indian, and seafood. There’s even a truck specializing in grilled cheese sandwiches. To find out food truck locations and events check out the Jacksonville food trucks website.
Jacksonville also boasts fine dining at restaurants like Orsay and Azurea and Southern comfort with a twist at places like Maple Street Biscuit Company and Black Sheep.
Time to Take in a Football Game?
Jacksonville also loves sports, especially its NFL team, the Jacksonville Jaguars. Their home base of EverBank Field is conveniently located in downtown Jacksonville and was recently updated with new video screens. It also hosts the annual game between rivals University of Florida and University of Georgia. If you’re looking to find deals on tickets try TiqIq.com or ScoreBig.
